Toymaker versus DC23 MG The O build off!

click image to enlarge to 1600 x 1000

Once again, thanks a ton to Kenny Lim aka Toymaker for accepting my challenge early this year ( 2011 ) and making this build off possible.

Glad this was just a friendly competition / build off though as Kenny's MG The O is out of this world as expected! Anyways I have here 6 medium sized wallpapers ( for myself ) but if you like them, feel free to grab them, share them and post as your wallpapers too.

Me and Kenny has set yesterday as our deadline for our Toymaker versus DC23 build off a few days ago. I have talked about this build off a lot in my older posts as this project was supposedly both me and Kenny's year end GBWC entries. Anyways, I think I have talked enough ( lol ), so here are the links to my gallery and to Kenny's MG The O gallery...

MG the O II Hauer conversion verDC23

First of all... thanks a ton to Kenny Lim aka Toymaker for making this project possible!

Before I start boring you with a lot of talk, here is the link to the summary of the work in progress of this project.

This is basically my entry for the Toymaker versus DC23 build off that I talked about in a lot of my older posts. The Toymaker versus DC23 build off is better explained HERE and HERE.

This was supposed to be my entry for the up coming Gunpla Builders World Cup 2011. However as I have won 4 times as Champion and 1 time as 1st runner up, I am basically disqualified in joining the Open category here in the Philippines since last year ( 2010 ). I will still be placing this link in my contest gallery though as this was originally planned for GBWC expert category anyways.

note: I abandoned the original diorama concept and threw away the diorama out of the window ( excluding the MG Gundam markII ) after the GBWC Philippines announcement. This year's expert category at GBWC will only accept OOTB builds, unlike last year when I won with my " Gilgamesh project ". I then did a quick simple base / diorama for a day ( yesterday ) just to improve the presentation of the whole project.

I wanted to challenge myself early this year when I thought of starting this project. I am not good at all with scratch building as evident in my older builds. My primitive skills in scratch building only allows me to do kit bash stuff and my usual mindless slapping of pla plates and kotobukiya parts.

I worked on this build for roughly 3 months total, but started really early on the basic shape of the butt. After managing to produce the scratched built butt, I abandoned the project as I had to work on a few commission builds. I was a little more confident that I could somehow pull off my first scratch built project after seeing how I did the butt.

I then revisited this project only less than a couple of months ago and tried to finish before my self imposed deadline.

I hand painted the whole kit with Vallejo and Citadel acrylic paints as I made a huge mistake on the salt technique a couple of weeks back, thus ruining the original air brushed painting. I enjoyed painting with the Vallejos as they went on very smooth and the colors are vibrant. So basically aside from being my first almost fully scratch built Gunpla... this is also my first almost fully hand painted master grade kit.

The build is still a bit crude and rough as I am not really that comfortable with scratch building. I am a Fine Arts graduate thus I love painting and weathering more than measuring and cutting plastics. But I am happy with the outcome! Never thought in any stage of the build that I could pull this project off.

I am a little more confident in my scratch building after this, although I must admit I am still not that comfortable. I will be finishing a couple of master grade kits ( commission works ) before the year ends and after those projects I will start in brainstorming my next contest build for 2012.

Anyways, here are a TON of photos of my MG The O II conversion...

Toymaker versus DC23 revealing soon...

Toymaker versus DC23 build off poster

During the start of the year ( January 2011 ) I challenged Kenny Lim aka Toymaker to a build off. I follow Kenny's blog religiously and saw that he was planning to build a MG The O too. So I asked him if we could do a sort of build off together which will also serve as our BAKUC entries come yearend of the same year.

Kenny is one of the best and most respected modelers in this part of the world ( at the very least ), thus I am totally insane and out of my mind when I thought of the idea. Honestly I was thinking of just trying to out do myself as I desperately need motivation to improve. The best modelers here in the Philippines are semi retired already, they are only doing relax builds and are not really as competitive as they used to. So there is not much reason to compete with them anymore.

So there... challenging Kenny is basically a move to motivate my self to improve my craft by challenging one of the best and one of my original inspiration when it comes to detailing and modifications.

Fast forward to today ( November 12, 2011 ), Both me and Kenny are sort of rushing our custom MG The O builds for the Singapore Gunpla Builders World Cup 2011 on November 15. He is now painting the armor parts of his kit and I am rushing a simple base after this post. We will be revealing both our custom MG The O exactly on

November 14 11:59 PM

The build off is almost over... I have posted around 13 WIP posts of my MG the O while Kenny has posted only a couple ( as I expected - lol ). But I have been in constant contact with Kenny since the start of our challenge back in June 2011.

This was a win and win situation for me as not only did I get the chance to compete with one of the best in the craft, thus pushing myself to somehow out do what my skills would allow me to. I also won a friend from across the sea.

I got to meet Kenny back in our MAC forums anniversary party last August 2011 here in the Philippines, and since then he has been a mentor, tutor, inspiration, a rival and a close friend. This build off although not yet finished has served it's purpose already. I won a great friend.

MG EX-s Gundam modeled by Beckylaw

The Queen of Gunpla has finished another flawless work. ZeroGunz long time member / moderator and MAC forums VIP member BeckyLaw of Malaysia, has just finished a flawless commission work on a MG EX-s Gundam.

As always, Becky did a great job on the finishing of the kit and her photography is always perfect ( she is a photographer in real life ). The color tones are faithful and brilliant at the same time. Anyways, a ton more photos of her flawless commission work inside our MAC forums as always. Here is the link guys...

MG Pro Ball Shop diorama by Tember Gundam

MG Pro Ball Shop by Tember Gundam photo

I have here another entry to our much vaulted MAC forums scale diorama section! I am proud to say that our forums is the only Mecha oriented forums to sport a dedicated section for dioramas. Our forums now has a whopping 200 entries in our diorama section alone. These includes some of the craziest Gunpla dioramas in the business.

Anyways, I am featuring here the newest entry to the dio section which is done by MAC forums VIP member and friend Russell Hutchison aka TEMBER GUNDAM. Tember is pretty much known for his crazy color schemes and creative mods, but he has now ventured to diorama building for the first time. I personally value dioramas so much, over stand alone kits as these masterpieces are not very easy to come by.

Anyways join the discussion and see tons of photos of this Pro Ball Shop modeled by Tember Gundam, inside are MAC forums as always. Here is the link guys...

I am proud to present another beautiful build from our MAC forums launch pad! As it is very obvious by now, our MAC forums has one of the busiest completed section around. All of the finished model kits that I feature here in my website are freshly contributed builds and not old builds that I failed to feature before. I am proud and pleased to say that the activity in our  MAC forums the past few months is totally insane.

I have here today a custom painted MG Rezel by new MAC forums member solowing666. He did a marvelous job on the camo pattern of the kit and gave it some nice photos as well. I highly suggest you jump to our very active forums for discussion and a ton of photos of this build. Here is the link as always guys...

GBWC entry: Hyaku Shiki revised by Waylander

GBWC entry: Hyaku Shiki revised by Waylander photo

I am proud to present a beautiful masterpiece from good friend and MAC forums member Yi Hui aka WAYLANDER. Waylander is one of the poison monkeys and he is one of our visitors in our last MAC forums anniversary here in the Philippines.

This is the most complicated and most customized build I have seen from Yi Hui and I must say he seems to be comfortable with the modding world. The base kit for this build is a MG Delta Plus and he totally transformed it into a monster. Yi Hui is always good with painting but I now know he is also very good at modifications.

Anyways a ton more photos of this Singapore GBWC entry Hyaku Shiki revised by Waylander at MAC forums... Here is the link guys...

1/6 Cowboy Bebop diorama by Ogami photo

New MAC forums member OGAMI is a master of introductions period. Ogami is new to our MAC forums and he did not waste any time or post in introducing himself. His first contribution to our forums is a 1/6 Cowboy Bebop resin diorama which is simply a masterpiece! A post that will be hard to forget.

I just shared / posted an insane Gunpla diorama before this post, which was posted in our popular diorama section. Now I will give you the link to this insane masterpiece by Ogami which he has posted in our equally popular resin kit section! I super highly recommend you vault to our forums and check out this masterpiece and join the discussion. Here is the link guys...
