BAKUC project update - un-boobing the chest part

Ello guys, I skipped modding the head further today, coz I might get more ideas later on... plus I suddenly thought of sacrificing my 1/144 GN-X which has been waiting to be primed for 3 weeks now. I really am not into 144s I think.



I managed to mod and incorporate the GN-X parts into the chest and created an interesting looking part. The boob part suddenly does not look as booby anymore though I am veering away from Zluca's masterpiece. I think though that the chest blends a bit  well with the front skirts and the new head fin.



I have also started to detail up and thicken the front skirts using some 1mm and 2mm pla plates. I still have not sanded the edges of the skirts coz I might add a few more layers to the front and rear side of the front skirt. I think it is starting to look detailed now. Anyways, here are tons of pics on the progress of the build for the day...

I drew where I want to glue the GN-X parts to the boob part... I was really really hesitant to do this coz a failure means re-puttying and re-sanding of the part...

I gorged the shape using a Hasegawa flat chisel...

Super glued the part...

and drilled a 1/2 inch deep hole through the cavity of the boob part...

I then flooded the hole with super glue and inserted 2mm rods to strengten the bond. 

I used my new reamer to make a hole big enough for the koto part to fit... You could drill a bigger hole, but I was lazy to change the drill bit. ;)

BAKUC project quick update - initial head mods

Good morning guys, I did the head fin yesterday a couple of hours ago before work. I was not able to take photos though, coz my camera ran out of juice. I am pretty happy with the direction of the MG Sazabi mods so far. I personally think this is my best fin so far.



The fin is done by doing the basic shape with a .5mm pla plate, I then sandwiched the .5 mm with two 1.2 mm pla plates on both sides to give it a little more volume. For some weird reason I came up with the idea of cutting the tip of a Gundam foot and placed it on both sides also. The Force Impulse sword is another weird addition I think.



Most of my other large fin mods are simple 1 piece ( MG Kampfer, MG IJ and MG DOM ) fins with 0 to minimal detailing like the holes on the DOM fin. So I am really happy with this fin coz it is my most complicated so far.



This is the main reason why I love ZEON mechs and steam punk concepts in particular! Wild ideas and unorthodox modifications always look natural on them. Anyways, here are a few more pics of the fin... I will work on the MG Sazabi today and will have updates later...

Tamiya Micro hammer

I got myself a couple of new tools today... a Tamiya Micro hammer and a set of hollow punchers. The Tamiya Micro hammer is my most impractical tool ever! hehe... it costs 750 Php, man that is like buying 2 regular sized hammers already. ;)



However, I have this tool sickness that whenever I have a new tool I feel like doing more Gunpla. I have been collecting / using various tools in the past couple of years now, thus I am running low on the tools that I do not have. I am now starting to buy the not so important Tamiya tools.



The hammer has interchangeable heads, 1 brass head ( brass ), 1 flat metal head ( black ), 1 round metal head ( black ) and a nylon / plastic head ( white ). Basically your suppose to use a specific head for specific materials that you will hammer. Use metal and brass heads if you need a little more force and use the plastic head if you do not want to ruin the surface that is being hammered.



I will be using the hammer for the punchers actually ( I might use the brass or plastic head ), the hollow puncher set on the other hand is so cheap ( 144 Php ) and it look pretty solid to me. Basically I can use this to punch holes on .5mm and thinner pla plates a lot faster than drilling and then reaming the hole to make it bigger. Anyways, here are some pics of my new tools...

Aang the Last Airbender 3.75 inch figure

Ello guys, I just want to share my favorite toy / figure right now... it's an Aang 3.5 inch figure from the upcoming movie Aang the Last Airbender. My wife bought me this figure a couple of days ago and is my fav toy since then. I have this fig with me anywhere I go. hihi



I used to collect action figures back in the days, I mean when I only had 1 kid and was not into Gunpla ( since birth - 2006 ). I really can't afford to buy toys now coz I have 3 kids already plus Gunpla ain't exactly a cheap hobby.



Anyways, I really love the Avatar ( original name ) cartoon series from Nick, I love the concept and the art. When I saw the trailer of the upcoming movie I instantly was converted to a fan... I love the epic gritty look and texture of the movie ( I am a LOTR fan afterall ).



So, when I saw these figs... again I fell in love with them. The problem here is that I have vowed to collect all the figures...specially the Appa ( flying Bison ) figure which is as big as a cat! The figure reminds me of the old M.A.S.K. toys ( hope you are old enough to remember ). hehe



The figure has very nice details and the resemblance to the real life Aang is impressive. The articulation is very nice it has I think at least 12 points of articulation. Anyways, looking forward to getting the Appa fig soon. hihi. Now here are some pics...

btw, the figure came with MOMO, his flying lemur friend.
